Bhopal Group for Information and Action (BGIA) is a local organization that was formed by Satinath Sarangi shortly after the disaster to provide the survivors with medical and legal help. For one year they released an English-language newsletter informally titled "Bh?pal," providing updates about the medical effects of the disater, legal cases and settlement issues, and other relevant topics to those outside Bhopal. These newsletters provide key insights into the frustrations and injustices the survivors faced immediately after the disaster.
Excerpt from Issue One:
"For the victims of the Bhopal Gas Disaster, the trauma is far from over. The nature of their pain has, however, undergone a transformation -- the shock generated by the intense ferocity of the gas leak has gradually metamorphosed into a throbbing, chronic pain. In the absence of an adaquate and effective programme of healthcare and rehabilitation, the disaster continues."
The titles below refer to the front page story of each issue. Each newsletter is between eight and fourteen pages.
